Associated with the Greek goddess Persephone, pomegranates were considered the “fruit of the dead” by the ancient Greeks.  Don’t let this deter you from trying this beautiful fruit.

I am not one to buy all the new hype diets, so don’t think that I am posting about pomegranates because some “dietician” said pomegranates were good for you.  I believe that any fresh fruit is good for you.  This fruit is in season right now though and is a great option for a snack.

How to eat:

You eat the seeds of this fruit.

  1. Cut the fruit in eighths
  2. Bend the skin backwards so as to reveal all the seeds.  The seeds are then easy to eat out of the fruit.  Beware of the white pith – it is not good, very bitter.

Watch out for the juice.  It can stain clothes, but will come out of skin pretty easily.
