My name is Sara and I am a 20-something young professional and recent graduate student constantly on the search for ways to eat better tasting and healthier food. I can’t really remember when my fascination with food began. I know that my mom had a big influence on how I approach food and eating. Having traveled the world and grown up in a place as culturally diverse as Hawaii, my mom raised me on French, Indian, American, Hawaiian, Asian, and Scottish food. Because of her, I enjoy food for its culture and complex flavors. I was fortunate to be raised with a respect for food and not an emotional relationship to it.
However, as I have gotten older, I have watched family members and friends pack on the pounds. People who at one time were athletic are now twice the size they were, because they’re aging, no longer doing high school sports, and far too busy to give food much of a thought. I am fortunate to weigh similar to what I did in high school and have low blood pressure, but I know that without an effort on my part that could go away very easily. Especially since the couch is my best friend and not the treadmill.
Food is also something that I will eat over 80,000 times in my life. I might as well enjoy it. So learning how to cook is a no-brainer for me. I have spent years compiling recipes that I enjoy, learning methods to make my food healthier, and educating myself on what is best for me. Now I want to share my knowledge with others so that my work wasn’t in vain.
